If you are selected to serve as a Pend Oreille District Court juror, you will receive a questionnaire and letter explaining how the juror selection process works.

JUROR QUESTIONNAIRE

Complete the enclosed questionnaire and return it to the District Court office. Make sure to include at least one phone number (home, work, message, relative) where the Court can reach you. You must complete and return the questionnaire even if you are requesting exemption from jury duty

The judge may grant an exemption from jury duty under certain circumstances as specified on the Summons for Jury Duty by the District Court. Your request must be made in writing and clearly state good cause for the exemption.

You do not have to complete the questionnaire if you are exempt from jury service because you are under the age of eighteen, not a citizen of the United States, not a resident of Pend Oreille County, not able to communicate in the English language or have been convicted of a felony. Simply return the summons with the appropriate box checked at the bottom of the summons.

JUROR SELECTION

For each scheduled trial, eighteen jurors will be randomly selected from the pool of questionnaires received by the Court. Each selected juror will be personally called several days before the trial is scheduled to begin and instructed to report for jury duty on the specified date and time. If you are selected, you will need to call 447-2243 or 1-800-359-1506 between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. the day before the trial to make sure the trial is still scheduled to start and that your presence is required.

All prospective jurors should call the Juror's Answering Service at least once a week to obtain information about pending trials for which you may be called to serve as a juror.
