Adopt a County Road Program

Similar to Washington State's "Adopt a Highway" program, Pend Oreille County has a volunteer litter pickup program for county road cleanup.  Each group consists of two to four people and they volunteer to pickup roadside litter at least two to four times each year for a minimum of two years.  Signs are installed along the adopted road sections, naming the group of volunteers.
This program helps the county in three ways:
  1. Keeps the road shoulders clean in Pend Oreille County
  2. Volunteers help defray the cost of litter pickup
  3. Signage for the program reminds the public to NOT litter
If you would like to get your group involved and adopt a mile or two of any county road, please download and read the informational packet in the righthand column or contact Beth Gillespie, the Solid Waste Coordinator, at the Pend Oreille County Public Works office  625 West 4th Steet in Newport, WA (509-447-4513) for an informational packet to be mailed.
